The holidays can be a hectic time of the year. It is critical to remember that you can never be too cautious, prepared, or aware. “Some of the most common holiday-related accidents include slips and falls, toy-related injuries, household fires, cuts and lacerations to name a few”.
Here are six xmas holiday season safety rules for you and your family to remember during this joyous time of the year to help you avoid danger;
1. Beware of freebies
There is an online scam in which the scammer acts as a secret middleman between unsuspecting customers and the legitimate seller. Contests, “freebies,” or awards that tell you you’ve won something or that you have “money” or another prize waiting for you should be avoided.
2. Safeguard Appliances & Other Potentially Dangerous Household Items
The best line of defense against potential cooking accidents is routinely inspecting and locking down burners, ovens, and grills. Make sure every appliance functions properly, and when the kitchen becomes hot, never leave kids or pets unattended.
Install smart stove and grill guards for automatic appliance shutoff.
3. Prevent Leaks & Flooding with Moisture Detection
Flood and temperature sensors can protect any living space from water and moisture damage. These alert to interior and exterior issues such as leaking pipes, sinks, toilets, and defective appliances when installed in generally dry regions. This technique can also be applied to seasonal or rental residences. Smart technologies broadcast real-time warnings via any mobile device app even when you are not physically present at home.
Place sensors in kitchens, bathrooms, and basements for real-time leak detection.
4. Check & Monitor Decorative Candles
While they contribute to the festive spirit, unattended ornamental candles are a fire hazard.
It’s essential to keep them away from flammable materials, just like Christmas trees and lights. Never leave them unattended or burning for long periods of time, and remember to extinguish them before going to bed.
Set a timer or digital reminder so candles don’t burn for extended periods, or consider flameless, battery-operated light sources.
5. Avoid free Wi-Fi.
Although free public Wi-Fi seems appealing, it is frequently insecure and can expose your gadgets and personal information to hackers. Instead, when going online, utilize a VPN or your mobile phone as a hotspot.
6. Don’t click on links
Examine website URLs carefully because cybercriminals frequently create fake websites and names that look identical to organizations. Check the spelling of the organization’s name and the links for any errors. Check for the “s” in https at the beginning of the links to ensure the website is secure. Cyber criminals frequently send out bogus emails or text messages that contain links to malicious websites. If you receive an email or text message from an unknown sender, do not click any links.
Security Doesn’t Take Holidays!
It all comes down to creating a safe and secure environment for you, family and organization. As a result, preventative security measures are critical at any time of the year.
